Is This the Day?

Is This the Day?
By Joe Harrison

I actually got the idea for this from a movie I watched recently, but it really got me thinking. Just think about this for a minute. If there was a huge asteroid headed for earth, one so big that it completely destroys the entire world, the government would certainly know about it ahead of time. Here lies the question, would they tell us about it? Should they tell us about it?
Think about what the results would be if they did, I mean after all, we live in a society that riots, loots and burns cities when their favorite team wins the championship. How would we react if we knew the end of the world was coming? I worked for 15 years for an insurance company where part of my job was to be at every major catastrophe that took place in the Southeast United States. So I was at every hurricane, flood, whatever. We were always on scene before any relief agencies, including FEMA. The fact of the matter is, we were better organized and more prepared to do so. My point here, is that I saw what was not put on the news every night, I saw the looting, the stealing, I saw people doing things to each other that would make you question the existence of humanity, however, that was mainly in New Orleans. Where were the local police? Well, on one occasion, I saw a marked police car backed up to the broken doors of a Wal-mart as the officers loaded the trunk with merchandise…yes, I really saw that.
So the question remains, would it be prudent for the government to let us in on that secret or not?
OK, so what if it isn’t an asteroid? What if it is something more along the lines of the total economic collapse of the country? I am not talking about something like the great depression, I mean something much worse.
Try to picture the following: on Monday morning, you get up as normal and head to work, only to find that when you get there, the doors are locked and other employees are hanging around, not quite sure what to do. As a reflex, you pick up your phone and try to make some calls, but there is no service, no one else there has any either. Your next instinct would be to head home and check on your family since you cannot call them so you jump back in your car and take off. Wouldn’t you know it? You are low on gas. You stop at the station, but on every gas pump there is a sign on poster board, written in magic marker that says “Cash Only”. Well, you are a modern person, so you don’t carry cash. You try your debit and credit cards, but neither will work. Luckily you see a branch office of your bank across the street, no problem; you will just pop over there and get some cash. Well, the doors are locked, not only at this bank, but at all of them.
You start to hear the sounds of chaos in the distance, crashes, screams, gunshots and sirens. You do the only thing you can think of, get in your car and try to get as close to home as possible. You are horrified by what you see, groceries stores being raided for food, windows being broken out of almost every building, people being assaulted for the items they are carrying.
You may think all this sounds a little far fetched, but you can bet, in the case of such a total economic collapse, this would be day one.
So now a new question, what if the elected leadership of this country knows this collapse is coming? What if they know that there is no way to stop it? Would they tell us? Should they tell us?
Let’s just say that they decided to keep that a secret from us, what sort of warning signs could we look for?
I would think they would find all sorts of distractions to keep us busy, maybe something like gun control, abortion, sequestration, terrorist attacks on our embassies. Ok, I think we can check all those off the list.
I think we would also see conservative leaders giving only token opposition to liberal politics and pretty much going belly up to any kind of fight at all, making us question their ability to protect our best interests. Yep, check that one off the list too.
We would see more and more American companies moving their bases of operation to foreign countries…Check.
As the time got closer, we would see Wall Street insiders dumping stocks in wholesale fashion…Check.
We would see a sudden drop in the price of gold…Check.
We would see the value of the American dollar drop…Check.
We would see government forces preparing en mass in the form of numerous drills preparing them for the civil disorder that is sure to follow. It will mainly be organizations like the DHS as local enforcement will not be very reliable. The federal government will even amass a large amount of resources and ammunition…Double Check.
The effect of all this will be nationwide chaos. The DHS will not be able to handle it all; they and the military that is left in place will be completely overwhelmed. Some other force will have to come in and regain control. Will it be the UN? Since the United States funds about 30% of UN operations I would think not. China currently has a great deal invested in the United States and desperately needs our coal and oil resources, so they would be the most likely candidate. But there is another twist; do a little research and you will find that Russia has now moved nukes into Cuba, they are also increasing the submarine activity along the Atlantic coast and the Gulf of Mexico. Are they working together? Will they go against each other to gain control?
The fact is, the entire world will see this as the failure of Capitalism and it will become clear that a Socialist or Communist regime will be the only answer. Many Americans will be in such a desperate situation and will have lost so many loved ones in the chaos and fighting, they will gladly welcome the control of a Communist dictatorship. Did you know that when Hitler first invaded the countries of Eastern Europe, the Jews there welcomed him because they thought he would provide them much needed protection from the persecution of the Russian government?
Who knows, maybe all this is just my imagination working overtime, however, maybe it is a direct result of my wife and I doing hours upon hours of research every single day; hey we are retired and have nothing else to do. How much true research have you done?
