Generation of Shame

Generation of Shame
By Joe Harrison

It is amazing to me how fast things have changed in this country. The transformation I have seen just in my short lifetime is staggering.
I grew up listening and learning from my Grandparents. They were of a great generation of Americans. They survived the great depression and learned that to get something in life, you had to earn it and when you got it, you should appreciate it. They fought a World War with one common goal among them all, to stop fascism and socialism and to preserve the concept of democracy. They were not only determined to keep this country great, but to make it even greater for the following generations.
Later generations fought other wars with similar goals in mind, this time to stop the spread of communism and to preserve to concept of democracy around the world.
As a child, I began every day at school by standing and placing my hand over my heart and reciting the pledge of allegiance. There was an American flag in every single classroom. We were proud to be Americans. We did not give much thought to offending anyone who was not. When we did not agree with something, we had no fear of speaking out against it; it was our right as well as our duty. There was no fear of repercussions from organizations like homeland security.
We have gotten into the habit of naming generations, baby boomers, generation X, generation Y…whatever. If we are going to name this generation, it should be the generation of shame. It seems many of our younger citizens consider themselves somehow more intelligent than their Grandparents and call themselves progressives. They feel they have discovered a better way, all the while blind to the fact that they are following the principles of World leaders such as Hitler and Marx. They follow propaganda rather than taking the time to truly educate themselves. Let me assure you children that your concepts and ideas are nothing new and have been tried before, always ending in the oppression of the people.
I am actually grateful and consider it merciful that my Grandparents did not live to see what we have, and what we are becoming. You are the children of Shame.
For those of you who see what is going on and sit back and do nothing, you are the parents of Shame. You that say things like, all politicians are crooked, there is nothing I can do; you are the citizens of Shame. For those of you who are not educating yourself to the facts of the events going on around you, again, you are the citizens of Shame. You who we elected to preserve the Republic and our best interests, but instead, bend to the will of the Socialist movement; you are the leaders of Shame.
As for the rest of us, I will borrow from the words of Henry on the eve of the battle at Agincourt. Much like him, we are outnumbered, outgunned and out resourced, but like Henry, we few, we lucky few, we band of brothers and sisters who choose stand here today, will in the end be victorious. Our names will live forever in history and while others hang their heads in shame, we will stand tall and proud, knowing that it was our actions that saved this great nation. When our descendents speak of us, it will be with a hush of respect and pride for our accomplishments. We shall live forever in the pride they will feel in us.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

Cordial Greetings. I agree with all your words. They exactly describes actual situation of my fellow citizens in my country, Colombia. Figthing against totalitarism is a war in almost the whole world. Progressive mass media does look like we, fighter against that hegelian ideologies, are minorities. But we are not: we just are ashamed to say what we think or believe in, feared of be politically incorrect. With your authorization, I will translate your post in my own blog, citing the source, of course. From Colombia, with my respects.
